AITP Long Island Chapter Named “Association Outstanding Chapter” for 2014

Hicksville, N.Y. – November 17, 2015 – The Long Island Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) has been named the Association Outstanding Chapter for 2014 by the national AITP organization.

The Association Outstanding Chapter Award (AOCA) is the highest honor a chapter can earn in the Association of Information Technology Professionals. The AOCA award recognizes a full year's worth of activities and service to chapter membership and the national AITP association.

“The Association Outstanding Chapter Award is a great honor for the AITP Long Island Chapter,” said Barbara Viola, president, AITP Long Island Chapter, and president of the national AITP organization. “Throughout the year our committee members and the chapter’s Board of Directors put in a tremendous effort to offer informative chapter meetings and peer networking opportunities, and the AOCA award recognizes this dedication and hard work.”

“With numerous educational events such as the annual CIO Panel in May and the Technology Showcase and Economic Forecast in November, the AITP LI chapter is very active,” said John Sena, AITP LI Board of Directors awards chairman. “But it’s not just the volume of activity that qualified AITP LI for the Association Outstanding Chapter Award. It’s the focus on relevant and trending topics, the opportunities for networking with peers and industry leaders, as well as the business community outreach that makes the AITP LI a leading organization for the IT industry in the Long Island region.”

Each year, AITP chapters around the country compete for various regional performance awards. Chapters earning a Region Outstanding Chapter Award (ROCA) are finalists for the AOCA award. For the 2014 award year, ROCA winners were Atlanta, Chicago, Jackson (MS), Long Island (NY), Omaha, Pittsburgh and Puget Sound (WA).

The AITP Long Island Chapter is one of the largest chapters in the country, with over 200 members, and has been in existence for over 61 years since being established in 1954.
